These are 5 avocados we cooked with in Hawaii. I was taken by the various types of fruit available at the farmers market and was certainly drawn into the shapes and sizes which I had not previously experienced. I listened to the farmer discuss the attributes of each, from texture to skin thickness to ripeness. I was drawn in by the story and bought these five. I had the names written down in a notebook. Unfortunately, that notebook has gone AWOL. What I do remember is the story of the avocados was better than the product. I listened to the farmer rather than my instincts. We were sold several under-ripe specimens which, well, becomes my own fault. So I learned, or was reminded, that even if you don’t know what it is supposed to be like you may have an intuitive sense of the right and wrong. The story may be great but it does not put delicious on the table.
